Penny Auction Action at BunPig v3.0 is Ready to Roll

By Heath Ambler

If you have your finger on the pulse of the penny auction world, among all the big players you might have heard whispers about a funky little site called BunPig.com. With their playful site and half-Bunny/half Piggy logo, the site gained a remarkable following in early 2011. Pledging honest Penny Auctions and great customer service, they made an impression as a top site hidden behind an unlikely appearance. Then they disappeared, promising a software revamp that put them on top of the Penny Auction hill. Now it seems that BunPig is again ready to hop into the Penny Auction Fray. But what really went on during the hiatus?

When BunPig goes live again, what kind of site are we going to see? People who know the site from the first run will immediately recognize it as BunPig. But, they will also immediately notice the improvements. The new performance features of the site will be evident to everyone.

First and foremost, look for it to be fast. The servers are expanded and upgraded to handle more traffic. At the same time, the code has been streamlined so that each bidder presents a smaller workload for the server. In the end, it means blazing performance and far smaller chance of errors.

A second major improvement will be in the bidding logic. The RoboBun has gotten smart, and will actually place bids with different amounts of time remaining to keep things interesting. The code governing bid logic is also smarter than ever, so bids will be placed in the right order and at the right time every time.

The final changes in the platform will roll out over the next couple of months. Look for cool enhancements like BunPig Achievements, where bidders can collect different BunPig mascots for hitting goals. Trivia for prizes is another project in the works, along with allowing bidders to actually choose by voting which auctions come up next.

The wait will be over soon, and all the questions will be answered. Until then, people looking for their penny auction fix will have to keep their eye Twitter, Facebook, and the BunPig.com blog for news on the final opening date.
