A Quick Rundown On A Few Recent Lady Gaga Costumes

By Julia Kramer

Typically, the Lady Gaga costumes refers to the odd and sometimes outlandish outfits worn by Lady Gaga, an American musician. Born to Greek parents as Stefani Angelina Germanotta, the American songwriter and singer is known for her personality and unique music, but it is the strange choices that she makes when it comes to her fashion that make her the most famous.

Germanotta, during the 2005 summer season, began to work with other New York artists who helped her hone her artistic style. Eventually, she went on to adopt the moniker of 'Lady Gaga', although the story of how this name change came to be varies, depending on who tells it. Her very first CD was released to positive reviews for featuring more than one genre of music.

Along with the expert help of her team of personal designers and stylists, the musician has found a way to create a distinctive look. This look is ultimately inspired by a variety of odd and unlikely sources. When she is in full costume, it calls attention to her distinctive style and way of self-promotion.

The most well known of all her costumes is perhaps Ms Gaga's legendary 'meat dress'. Made entirely of thin cuts of raw flank steak, the garment was specially designed so that the eccentric artist had to actually be sewn into it. She wore it to MTV's 2010 Music Video Awards, where its sudden statement and presence caused critics and fans alike to speculate on the controversy. The piece was condemned by animal rights groups and praised by others.

The famous dress, following the stunt, was preserved carefully into a jerky-like substance, and then put on display at a famous music-oriented museum. It is now cataloged away in the musician's style headquarters with the rest of her outfits.

Another outlandish outfit of the singer was known simply as 'the bubble dress'. Designed by Gaga, this one was made of plastic thin balls that were meant to look like the songwriter was covered in hundreds of tiny bubbles. The piece was paired with a special matching piano filled with similar tiny 'bubbles' as well.

One of her most bizarre costume choices so far, was her 2009's now infamous 'Kermit the Frog Coat'. The outfit was created and designed by her personal designers and she wore it to a German TV show for a quick interview. The item was literally a coat with dozens of frogs attached to its outer layer.
