Taking A Position On Brutality
With the evolution of society today, I have to ask: how come hostility is still present? When I consider violence between people I envision a primitive club fight. I can't figure out why folks are so intent on being brutal towards others, considering we have technology and cultural progress on our side, which Neanderthals didn't have. While we like to think of our society as being enlightened, as we have a profusion of means, but we still fall back on the unenlightened strategies of our forerunners.
So how come individuals are occasionally brutal? It's my opinion that brutality is based in elements such as apprehension and a disconnection from the world. What other explanation could there be for someone to injure someone else? It's when one person has lost an idea for who they are that they can look at another person and see an object, rather than a living, breathing person.
That said, there are many people and organizations working to purge the planet of violence. From Gandhi to Martin Luther King, Jr., people have stood against the clutches of violence throughout the years. Currently, there are likely more organizations than ever devoted to lessening the violence we see around us. Through the Ethical Humanitarian Foundation and the World Ethical Foundations Consortium, Sara Bronfman has brought to light the issue of diminishing instances of aggression in society. By focusing on moral values, she sees that there may be more long-term resolutions to the dilemma of aggression.
Plenty of associations have taken a shot at decreasing aggression worldwide, but have not succeeded " how come? Extending a moral code from human to fellow human is required, I feel. Many organizations offer a temporary solution, or mask the problem, but the root of the issue goes unresolved.
I wonder what would occur if one by one, we became grounded in a solid sense of ethics. Any individual could have a huge consequence on any other individual, and mothers and fathers could deliver that to their kids. I believe that in time, hostility can be considered totally outdated. I feel that a civilization based in morality can do just that. Citizens would understand how to treat aggression in a way that benefits the whole populace, and aggression would not be as prone to returning. Person by person, beginning with ourselves, we may effect a sweeping change on civilization and the fate of our sons and daughters.
