Eight Easy Tips To Learn Guitar On Your Own

By Jorge Balibrera Calvo

It's exciting to start learning something new, especially something so beautiful like it is playing guitar, not only is exciting but it is an amazing experience. I know that learning to play guitar can be a little bit difficult at the beginning, but that is the hardest thing to do, taking the first step is not always easy. Imagine if you are driving to apply to the job of your dreams, you don't want to mess it up, so, you prepare yourself for the interview and if you know someone who has worked there before, you ask for their advice.

Now that you have decided to learn guitar, it is time to see what the best way to go is, and what the best path to follow is in your way of becoming a musician.

Tip one: Always be sure to have plenty of time to practice if possible every day. This is alone is the most important thing to consider, practice is the key; one hour a day is probably good enough for you to start.

Tip number two: listen to music. Difficult, isn't it? To be more specific, to the songs you would like to learn on the guitar. When the time comes for you to learn these songs, you'll know by ear when you make a mistake, besides, having the motivation of learning a song that you actually enjoy playing will make it easier.

Tip number three: do exercises. An example of a good exercise is after you have learned the chords, play them in order: C - D - E - F - G - A - B. Do this a couple of times to get used to the changes.

Tip number four: practice in your head. This sounds silly right? But yet it is true. When you imagine something in your head, your brain works as if you were actually doing it. So, when you picture yourself doing the chords on your guitar, you are actually practicing almost as much as if you had the guitar in your hands.

Tip five: keep your guitar tuned up and ready to play, plus, clean it before and after every time you practice on it, it will be like a small detail that motivates you to continue playing, you'll learn to love your guitar, I have no doubts about that.

Sixth tip: exercise your fingers to make them stronger. To make this happen, all you need to do is to learn and practice guitar scales on the fret board, by doing this a lot on your first week with your guitar, you will be able to feel the difference very quickly.

Tip seven: Play guitar blindfolded. This is a great technique that will make you dominate your guitar like a professional. Your will educate your hearing and your hands will know what to do even if you are not watching. It can be a little bit tricky at first, but trust me, this really works.

Tip number eight: Look at other people. Having a role model to follow is a good thing to do, as long as it is to get motivation and inspiration only.

Then don't forget that the best way to learn guitar is to practice every day. I strongly recommend you to get a guitar course online, or if you are able to join a music academy, that's a good idea too. The important thing is to put dedication into it.
