Hindi Cinema And Experimentation - Latest Trends

By Kevin Fernandez

The Millennium has seen a lot of new trends in latest Hindi films. Nowadays movie scripts are more mature, exploring political and social problems. Cinematography has become advanced with latest technological innovations, benefiting directors.

Movie sound recording have changed drastically as western influences seep in through ever crack and gap. Mainstream cinema relies on item songs to pull the public even if it seems like a flop after its release.

One more important change in Hindi cinema is the large amount of money spent for a film's promotional and advertising tactics. Since the Film industry is a huge business opportunity, it is very common to find them smartly promoted. You can take Farhan Akhtar's 1st film Dil Chahta Hai for instance. It ushered the opening of a new age in Bollywood films by retaining dance, song and drama sequences but also adding some sensibilities and treating them maturely.

The Indian film industry consist of all types of movies besides latest Bollywood films. Specialized or art movies are mostly altered to fit silver screen. A genre of persuasive and tough topics such as the type seen in City of Gold (based on Mumbai mill workers' lives) have become more and more common. Directors experiment with different ideas and interpretations of reality. Most of the movies are a representation of and do not mirror real life, offering enough room for a creative narration of situations and people.

Latest Hindi movies (mainly the mainstream kind) have turned to shooting most of the films in foreign countries. Action movies use incredible stunts and come in an impressive packaging.

A few years back, actresses were relegated as love interests and mostly shown clinging to the hero's arm. Some successful movies like The President is Coming and Fashion were different films by having only actresses in the main roles. Directors are experimenting with horror genres with renewed gusto, moving away from the usual ghost stories. Phoonk, 13B and Raaz are some of the latest Hindi films in the horror category that have attracted people to the theatres in huge numbers.
