Ajay Devgan, Hindi Cinema's Most Dependable Actor
In an acting career in the film industry that has spanned almost 20 years, Ajay Devgan has had a quite remarkable ride. With a series of successes the previous year, Ajay Devgan has been looked up to as the most dependable actor in Bollywood. The fact has been enforced by the report that he has sold the rights of forthcoming movie Singham for over Rs 12 crore.
This rate at which the rights is sold is higher than that of Dabangg, a film from Salman Khan. He could showcase good performance in successful movies like Golmaal 3, Athithi Tum Kab Jaoge, Raajneeti and Once Upon a Time in Mumbai. Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgan are working together again after Golmaal 3.
Known as Vishal Devgan, he didn't find it difficult to enter the movie industry. His brother Anil is a film director and father Veeru Devgan is a stunt choreographer. He entered the industry with 'Phool aur Kaante' in 1991, bagging the Filmfare award for Best Debutante. That decade saw many super hit movies from Ajay Devgan including Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Ishq, Pyar to Hona Hi Tha and Ek Hi Rasta. He is bestowed with National Awards for the movie Zakhm (Mahesh Bhatt) in 1999 and for Legend of Bhagat Singh in 2003. He married Kajol in 1999.
Of late, his last name has been changed and spelt without a letter. This was to increase his fortunes in his film career. Is it a complete coincidence that the success rate of his movies has gone up last year, fetching him the reputation of a dependable star?.
It was commented by Ramesh Sippy (owns the Singham rights) that Ajay would be one actor in Hindi movie industry who will never choose similar characters and continue to look out for varied challenges and chances. Right through his film career, Ajay Devgan has delivered commercially successful movies at the box office at a consistent rate. Sippy said that his acting ability in managing comedy genre in recent hit Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, Athithi Tum Kab Jaoge and Golmaal shows that he is entirely reliable as an actor.
In addition to films, Ajay also has other activities and interests in mind. He has plans to put money in a solar power project for Gujarat state. Roha Group of Mumbai is said to have partnered with Ajay in the 25mw solar project, which is estimated to come around Rs 400 crore.
