WHow Should I Learn The Piano? Part 1

By Anthony Fernando

If you have ever attempted learning an instrument before you'll realize there are a big heap of different things to learn and it is not just as simple as learning the right actions.

Piano is not different, there's so many things you'll have to learn, whether its how to read music, learn piano notes, picking up the rhythm or style of a song or getting the tempo and timing right.

There's a number of different ways in which you can learn the piano, so we'll be taking a look at the varied approaches you can take as well as their advantages and drawbacks.

Learning From A Book

Learning from a book is seen by some as the 'traditional way ' of learning the best way to play any instrument. I have heard of numerous folk who had to sit in front of their piano and read their lessons and learn to play the set pieces time after time.

There are advantages and drawbacks to this approach.

The benefits are that after you purchase a book, you own it. You do not have to pay weekly payments or regular costs.

You can also use the book at any point, its never not available so you can just pick it up and start practicing when you are prepared or it suits your agenda. No set times, it might be early in the morning or late evening.

Sounds excellent right? But there are restrictions to the book.

Books contain a certain quantity of info. You could come across a problem that isn't covered by the book. Or you might want to learn some music that isn't in the book. In this situation, you are going to need to go to somewhere or somebody else to discover what you need to grasp.

Also a book does not encourage you to keep going, can't tell if you what a song should sound like or if you're playing a specific piece correctly.

So you have to take those things into account.

In the following article, we will be looking at the benefits of DVD's and teaching yourself.

Till then, keep at it and do not forget to practice!
