Reasons That Make France A Paradise For Wine Lovers

By Adriana Noton

When considering the best locations in the world for sampling this beverage, France immediately springs to mind for many people. Vineyards have been cultivated there for hundreds of generations, and production of the liquid is heavily involved in the way of life. Many people consider France a paradise for wine lovers, and this guide will help to explain all that is on offer for them there.

The are many connected things that you can do in the country besides just sampling the liquid. Wine tourism is growing to become a big industry, and there are a wide range of options on offer including tasting classes, visiting local vineyards and following suggested routes across the countryside from vineyard to vineyard.

Another factor is the diversity of production in France. Each region produces very distinctive varieties, and this is mirrored by the culture, landscape, history and climate that can be experienced there. This makes wine tours around the country particularly attractive.

Well worth a visit is the area known as Burgundy, which has had a long, successful and renowned wine producing history. A particular attraction is a city called Beaune, which boasts a number of large underground wine cellars. The countryside around Beaune is littered with vineyards, often at monasteries, and there are numerous exciting wine tours that you can go on.

A visit to France would not be complete without calling in at the Bordeaux region. This area is amongst the biggest producers of the liquid in the world, and creates some world renowned varieties. There is a yearly international wine fair held there, and the whole region is saturated with grape producing estates and vineyards.

For something completely different, try the Alsace region. The majority of varieties produced here are dry or sweet whites, produced from aromatic grapes. The bottles on offer in Alsace vary significantly from those in the rest of the country, in part due to its proximity as a region to Switzerland and Germany. Both the atmosphere of the area and the drinks that it produces have taken on influences from these countries, meaning that a tour around the region can be fascinating and should not be missed.

Another unmissable destination which is again very different to other regions of the country is the area of Champagne. Famous for sparkling whites, this is the only area worldwide that is legally allowed to give its produce the label of champagne. All of the major champagne houses such as Taittinger and Dom Perignon are located here, and a tour of these vineyards will give you an opportunity to get an insight in to the world of champagne that you will not be able to recreate anywhere else.

Perhaps the thing that makes France a paradise for wine lovers above all is the extent to which it is an intrinsic part of French culture, and has helped to make the country what it is. The sheer range of varieties, renown of the vineyards and diversity of regions makes this country the perfect destination for aficionados. Check out their France villas and maybe check out their luxury vacation rentals on your next trip.
