The Remastered Discovery CD Box Set Psychedelic Rock Legends Pink Floyd
The Pink Floyd Discovery Box Set includes all fourteen of their studio LPs from their 1967 debut through their 1970s masterpieces Wish You Were Here, The Dark Side of the Moon, and The Wall through their last album in 1994.
All of the CDs have been newly digitally remastered by the co-producer of 1979's double album The Wall.
Anyone who has listened to the amazing leap in sound quality from the 1980s mastered Beatles CDs to the 2009 remastered CDs contained in The Beatles in Stereo Box Set knows that this digital remastering can be much more than simply an advertising gimmick. A good remastering can let you to hear this music like never before.
Along with the music itself, the box set contains a 60 page artwork booklet by the band's long time art collaborator and each disc comes with a a little booklet which has all of the lyrics lyrics for that album.
In addition to the 16 disc studio album "Discovery" box set (The Wall and Ummagumma are double albums) the band is also releasing three "Immersion" box sets for their three most popular LPs.
1973's The Dark Side of the Moon, 1975's Wish You Were Here, and 1979's The Wall are singled out for with these "Immersion" box sets which are probably the most exciting thing for hardcore Floyd fans because they contain unreleased alternate mixes, alternate recordings, and live recordings.
The Dark Side of the Moon Immersion CD Box Set seems especially interesting to me and not that's not just it's my very favorite Pink Floyd studio album but because it has the most interesting sounding bonus discs. Disc 2 has an entire live performance of this album in England in 1974! Disc 3 is an audio DVD which contains surround sound mixes (5.1 & the 1973 quad mix!), Disc 4 is a DVD which has concert screen films, live performances, and a documentary video about the album, Disc 5 is bluray versions of discs 3 and 4, and finally Disc 6 is a CD with additional demos, live recordings, and alternate versions.
These box sets also have some fun extra stuff such as collectors cards, ticket replicas, exclusive photo books, marbles, coasters, and scarves.
