Learning from a DVD
DVD's established themselves as a mainstream format many years ago - actually its quite uncommon to find someone that does not own a DVD player. The main advantage they have is they can hold a lot more info than the formats that came before it.
The main advantages of DVD's are they are able to offer more media types than books. While books use print and images, DVD's can offer this, as well as video and audio to go with the lessons.
This could really help learners see and hear the way in which the song is supposed to be played and where the fingers are meant to go on the keys together with reading piano notes.
Interestingly though, the downsides are similar to books. If you have questions or problems that are not covered by the DVD, then you are plum out of luck and will have to look elsewhere.
Also, a DVD won't remind you to practice or be there to inspire you when you want it when it isn't currently playing, so keep this under consideration.

I am not going to sugarcoat this, it's a very hard option to take and the results are mixed. there were cases of people teaching themselves to play instruments , however , these people actually have a background in music and typically already know how to play other instruments and know how to read music.
While it is not impossible, it will be much tougher to do it this way than any other way. You'll have no way to estimate how well you are going, what you should be practicing or whether you have good methodology or not.
The majority that have taken this option regularly finish up giving up or finding other resources or information to assist them with their learning and giving themselves some structure to their lessons.
