Who Is The Best Boxer of All Time?

Boxing is on top of the ranking in the world of sports and falls into the category of martial arts. Only two people take part in a boxing match. No weapons are used, only bare fists. It is supervised by a referee. There is a specific number of rounds. A round takes three minutes. Ask around about "the best boxer of all the time", and you will find that opinions are varied. Boxers are classified either by their record, their technique and speed and their speed or their strength.

A popular boxer is followed by his followers all over the worlds. Most matches are aired on TV and you will find that each match is a great opportunity to bet on. Each boxer has his own style. What a boxer needs is speed, power, dexterity, fortitude, and he should be perfectly timed. His defense should also be full-bodied and quick.

No matter what index you use to classify the boxer, you are sure to find the following six in the ranking. They are Roberto Duran, Willie Pep, Joe Louis, Henry Armstrong, Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson. They are renowned for their own style, pace, potency, nimbleness, timing and stamina. The boxers are grouped into three categories. That is, heavy weight, middle weight and light weight. Matches are conducted exclusively in each category.

Now if you are classifying boxers by the knockouts, then you could say that Sugar Ray Robinson is the topper with 108 knockouts He is followed by Henry Armstrong with 101, Roberto Duran with 70, Willie Pep - 65, Joe Louis - 54 and Muhammad Ali with 37. However, the number of knowckouts are just one of the qualifying factors. Though Joe Louis had only 54 knockouts as against Sugar Ray Robinson's 108, we find that Joe held the title of heavy wolrd champion for twelve years.

The title of the best boxer of all time could be claimed by Sugar Ray Robinson because of his 108 knockouts. Alternatively, Joe Louis can be considered for the title with his twelve years as the world heavy weight champion, even though he is low in the knockout ranking.

Coming to Muhammad Ali, who was the world heavy weight Champion for three years, we know that he is considered the best boxer of all time. Though he had immense strength and expertise, his defense was weak. He got beaten a number of times by faster opponents with greater stamina.

Joe Calzaghe, a light weight champion who won 46 fights with 32 of them being knockouts, was voted the best young boxer of the time. We can also consider Chris Eubank the best boxer, because he held the middleweight world champion crown for five years.

The commission of picking the best boxer of all time is very difficult. Every one of the above mentioned boxers have left his undeniable mark. You could name them all as the greatest boxers of all time. Their greatness is for different reasons; some are known for their speed and power, some for their agility and timing and others for their staying power.
