Life In Suspended Animation
Billions of years ago, an little insect clambers up the gnarled branches of an ancient tree, it gets distracted and unknowingly wanders into a drop of tree resin. The insect struggles frantically but alas, every wriggle causes it to sink deeper until ultimately, it becomes fully enveloped in the thick substance. Thousands of years go by, the tree sap hardens into a translucent fossil, and lies in wait until man uncovers it and becomes the precious stone that we now identify as amber.
Amber is seen as unlike all the other semi precious stones because aside from having a unique brownish-red color that emanates from the semi-transparent material, the tiny insects that are sometimes found entombed within it have been so delicately preserved that they look like they would spring back to life at any given moment, as if they have just been in suspended animation.
Maybe this unique fossil is mother nature's way of fashioning memoirs that let us to take a peek into the remote past and get a good idea of what life must have been like when the earth was different and young.
Today, we do not need to submerge ourselves in resin just to capture our memories, all you have to do is snap a photo and you have already preserved a tiny piece of your lives in the photo. The camera captures split seconds of our existence and allows that moment to keep on existing even long after we have passed on. These snapshots can also be likened to time portal, since by just looking at a photo, you are somehow transported back to the instance when the photograph was taken.
And when it comes to capturing memories, people tend to lean towards those instances in life that have a lasting significance for them. This is why graduation photography, maternity photography, and infant photography, are included among the most sought after types of photography, because these types of photography shoots focus on some of the most important times or chapters in a person's lifetime, and unsurprisingly, people want to have a memento from that occasion to keep the memory fresh in their minds for years to come.
