A Sport Fan's List Of American Football Films That Are Timeless
When it comes to movies about Football (the American kind), the memorable films are not always the easiest to find. Football movies can make one laugh, cry, cringe or be inspired. They can change your attitude for the better, or make you smile and feel good about your decision to spend $12.50 on a movie ticket.
The following is a list of some of the best movies about American football.
The Blind Side is a movie that I will remember for years to come, football movie or not. The film did a great job depicting the story of Michael Oher, as told in the novel of the same name my Michael Lewis (also wrote Moneyball, a fantastic novel that is being turned into a feature film.
I have nothing but fond memories of Varsity Blues, a coming of age comedy that exceeded most peoples expectations and somehow managed to leave its mark in the chronicles of football history movies. The West Canaan Coyotes left a lasting impression in my mind. Or maybe it was the whipped cream bikinis...
Another film that definitely has to make my list is Friday Night Lights. I have been meaning to start watching the television series, which many of my friends swear by, and if its anything like the movie, then consider me in.
"Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!" I can recall the first time I ever heard that memorable chant; I no doubt definitely had the chills. This is a fantastic film that I was shown at a young age, and feel that I am a better person because of it.
Any Given Sunday, features one of the greatest movie speeches of all time in the now famous Al Pacino "Peace With Inches" speech. This movie also features an incredible cast, adding Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx and Dennis Quaid to name a few.
The aforementioned films are truly some of my favorites. There are others that are worth mentioning, but these films I remember more than any other football movies.
