Texas Holdem has fast gained popularity during the recent years. Whether you are a first time or a seasoned player, knowing the basics is a must to turn yourself into an able and competent player. Texas Holdem is basically very easy to learn but the strategies to win are harder to apply.

Texas Holdem Basics: How To Play

Each player is dealt two face down cards. Betting follows. This first round of betting is called the pre-flop round.

A burn card is discarded and then the first three out of the five community cards are dealt face up and in the center of the table.

These three cards are called the flop. Your objective is to create the best possible 5 card combination or 'hand' among the 7 cards available to you.

Betting usually starts from the two blind buttons which are attached a couple of players, the first from the dealer button.

The first player will be required to post the big blind which understandably is a bigger bet and the second player will get the small blind which is equivalent to half of the big blind amount.

After the flop cards have been dealt, a second round of betting begins whereupon a burn card will again be discarded and the fourth community card, drawn. This fourth community card is called the turn.

There is another round of betting, another burn card taken from the deck and the 5th community card joins the rest of the shared cards on the table.

This fifth and final community card is called the river. The showdown then starts where every player reveals his combinations and compares it with other's hands. The highest hand wins the pot.

Player's hands are usually comprised of at least one hole card plus community cards.

There may be instances though where the best hand is already on the board. When this happens, the pot is split among active players.

So now, before you continue to learn even more about Holdem have a quick think about how you are going to use this information to make money at the poker table.
