Appreciating Christian Hip Hop Artists
The way religious music is made has changed significantly over the past few years. People from all genres do not do it the way they used to do it several years back. However, there is a particular genre that is under scrutiny and which is the recipient of all sorts of criticism. There are people who believe that Christian hip hop artists are not representing their religion.
The mistake that most critics of this music genre do is to generally comment about that who lot that does this style and come to very general conclusions. This is being both fair and unjust to the many other artists who do the same style but are genuinely committed to their values. It is therefore good to review and criticize individuals than the whole bunch.
Some of the critics base their evaluation on very petty stuff such as how the musicians dress. It is difficult to understand how they can base on so meager issues to judge something that is very diverse and big. There is a greater need for these people tom look at something wider when taking reviews of the singers in this field.
You will even hear others write off musicians in this style because of the way they dance in their music. This is too unrealistic. We both know that there is no standard rule when it comes to how people should dance. Although some dance styles may be suggestive, it is not true they are done by all the musicians in this field. Just a few individuals.
It does not mean that the musicians in this field are perfect though. It sure is true that there some things they do not do well, but so do musicians from all the other genres! It is therefore quite difficult to understand why the focus on those who do hip hop.
You will even hear some people argue that these people mix with the wrong type. They work together with secular singers and that they sing in places that are not associated to Christianity. Yes that do, but it is not to mean that they go there for anything else other than singing. And despite, this is the chance they have to convert those who do the secular thing to the religion.
Time has come when we must learn to give support to these musicians. We have to correct them when needed. But we also have to give credit where deserved.
