Texas Poker is a form of poker that is fast becoming popular today. It is a game of logic and calculation. All the Hold Em rules are simple but familiarity with the jargon is a must. You can slowly familiarize yourself as we go through the rules.

In Hold Em, each player is dealt with a personal, 'incomplete' hand or hole cards. Hand or hole cards are dealt face down, a mistake otherwise would mean that the dealer would have to cut and deal all the cards all over again.

Community cards, also known as window, board or shared cards are cards that are 'shared' among players. This means that any of the players can combine these cards with their hand. Cards are always dealt face up.

The object of Poker is to combine any of the hole and community cards to get the best five card combination.

The Basic Hold Em Rules

First, each player is given his personal hand which consists of two hole cards. The first round of betting follows. After this, three community cards - collectively called 'the flop'. - are dealt face up in no order or pattern.

This is then followed by a second round of betting. A fourth community card - 'the turn' - comes next which is followed by a third betting round. Finally, the last and fifth community card, called 'the river' is dealt followed by the final betting round.

Poker concludes with the showdown wherein the players show their cards which can consist of 1 hole card and 4 community cards, or both hole cards with three community cards.

It is important to note that community cards are dealt only after a card is burned. A burn card is a card that is taken from the top of the deck and is 'discarded' or excluded from the game. This was put into the Hold Em rules to prevent cheating and ensure that cards are always dealt from the top of the deck.

So, now you know all the basic Holdem rules - enough to play - but before you continue on to learn more about the rules have a think about where you really want to go with this game. Do you want ta make money from it or are you just playing for fun? Because your decision really means a lot to how you are going to tackle this.
