Facts About The Tourist Places In Florence

Even though a small town Florence have a great historical background and it is one of the most attractive tourist spots in the whole of Italy.

Florence attracts several thousands of tourists from across the globe throughout the year who throng the place to see the days of Renaissance depicted in its architecture. Though it is impossible to cover all the places of Florence in some days, yet we have mentioned some of its places of great historical significance.

Florence which is considered to be the birth place and the spiritual home of the Renaissance art movement in Italy houses the Uffizi gallery that boasts of a great collection of renaissance art works. It is therefore no wonder that several of the works of the renaissance period are still available in Florence.

The buildings used by the gallery were once government office buildings that belonged to the regional councils. No doubt, today the gallery serves the tourists better by way of showcasing the art pieces of what may be called Florentine in nature.

Some of the exhibits in the Uffizi gallery date back to the times before the renaissance period though the major works belonged to the renaissance period. The proud possessions of the De Medici family thanks to their big-heartedness occupy the gallery in Uffizi. That they should remain only in Florence was their condition.

One of the best architect of his times Arnolfo di Cambio constructed the Florence Cathedral that reflectsthe architecture of the 13th century in Italy.

The interior of Florence Cathedral is quite magnificent measuring 155 x 90 metres. An outstanding view of Florence can be had by those willing to climb the 414 steps up to the top of the bell tower for a price of 6.

The Florence Cathedral houses stained glass windows constructed by Donatello and the frescoes garnishing the inner walls.

Neptune's Fountain is situated in the main square of the old city of Florence. The busy tourist can rest a while between his visits at the wonderful Signoria Square in addition to the enjoyment of the architectural designs at the Fountain.
