Tips To Draw In Viewer's Interest In Youtube

By Andrew Wilson

Youtube has changed the face of modern video entertainment. However, with its popularity comes a downside: There are literally millions of videos all competing for the same eyes and ears every day. How do you get your video noticed amongst this melee? There are ways to grab viewers attention.

There are some tactics to get your video noticed on the leading social video site.

1. Your title is your headline. It's the part viewers will see first, before anything else. And it's the thing they will use to decide whether to click on your video or not. You should put a little bit of thought into what your title tells your audience. Does it leave them with questions? Does it describe what lays ahead? Or is it merely a boring line of words?

2. Put the video where viewers will find it. This means selecting the right category for your video. The right heading can make or break a video because it determines whether the right audience will be able to find it or not.

The problem comes when you list your video in the wrong place. If a viewer is looking for comedy, they are going to search based on certain category codes within the Youtube infrastructure. If your video isn't there, they are not going to find it. Worse yet, if your video is misidentified, they will be irritated and may never watch one of your videos ever again.

3. The more keywords you include with your video, the more opportunities you will have to have your video viewed by Youtube surfers. The keywords are also called tags and can help people searching Youtube for a particular subject to find relevant videos.

Videos that make smart use of keywords will get the most benefit from Youtube's search algorithms. Case in point, lots of viewers love funny cat videos. But Youtube doesn't know the difference between a cat video and a dog video, except for the use of keywords. So, if somebody searches for "funny cats," videos tagged with those words will filter to the top first.

4. Youtube is a video-SHARING site. That means you can make use of the social aspect of Youtube's services. Watch other people's videos. Comment liberally. And, as often as possible, link back to your own videos. However, be careful to appear genuine. Nobody likes a link-spammer.
