A Few Fun Corporate Activities

By Ruth Smith

Now that people all over the world are getting ready for the Christmas holiday festivities, this is also a time in which office managers are thinking of what they can do to entertain the employees during for their corporate party. These parties tend to be a mixed bag.

Some of them are a lot of fun, while some are dreadful. Many people show up to these parties so that they show they are a willing and cheerful part of the team. In other words, it's a part of office politics.

However, most office managers and upper level management genuinely want the employees to enjoy themselves at these parties. Some offices and corporations find that the turnout at these events can be pretty low; however, the attendance would improve drastically with the help of some practical and fun ideas.

Here are some ideas for activities that would make Christmas parties fun for office or corporate employees:

-Door prizes: It would be a fun activity to give out tickets to attendees. These tickets would be numbered. When special numbers are called out, the person who has the named ticket with the numbers on it will win a special prize. If management give their employees quality gifts such as a generous gift card, an inexpensive electronic device, or a gourmet gift basket, then employees will start to include the next party on their calendars.

-Reception with light snacks and desserts: Sometimes less is more. There is nothing wrong with renting a small party room in a hotel in order to hold a reception. The reception can feature light snacks and desserts. After people socialize with each other, they can move on to other venues if they would like to have drinks, or a heartier meal.

- International pot luck: An activity that combines socializing, eating, and getting to know each other, is pot luck. Employees from foreign countries or from foreign cultures can bring in a dish that represents their home country. This not only feeds the masses, but the dishes from foreign countries can serve as wonderful conversation starters.

- Secret Santa: This is a tried but true game that never ceases to make people laugh at these events. The purpose of secret Santa is to get another person a gift. Names are put in a hat, and each employee picks one. With a certain budget you have to get this person a present. Once they are wrapped up anonymously, they are all set in a pile and one after another the employees are called to pick up their present. Most of the time, the present is opened in front of the entire office, so it can be entertaining for everyone!

- Hold a lunch break party: This is a great method to ensure that everyone attends. The managers can simply order pizzas or they can order sandwiches. People can have a free lunch on the house, socialize for a bit, and then wish everyone a happy holiday before everyone goes away for Christmas.
