Baseball Teams : America's Best Five
One of the most popular sports in America is baseball. It has millions of fans and its appeal only ever seems to grow. This is why we've put together this guide to some of the most famous American baseball teams, starting with the Los Angeles Dodgers. They were created in New York in 1883 but moved to Los Angeles in 1958. They have been in LA ever since and are part of Major League Baseball. Their stadium, Dodger stadium, is one of the oldest stadiums of the Major League.
Also members of the Major League are the New York Yankees, who are based in the Bronx in New York City. They were actually founded in Baltimore, Maryland but moved two years later to New York. They are based at Yankee Stadium and even though they have always played at a stadium of that name, they actually moved bases in 2009. They have won more titles than the vast majority of other US baseball teams and, as such, are one of the most famous teams out there.
Another popular team is the Boston Red Sox. They have played at the same stadium, called Fenway Park, since 1912 but were actually founded in 1901. They suffered a massive drought of titles between 1918 and 2004. The sale of player Babe Ruth to the Yankees is often thought to have started this drought. Despite this, every one of their home games since May 2003 has sold out and they have since become one of the most popular teams of the past decade.
The San Francisco Giants were originally from New York but they moved out to San Francisco in 1957 and have stayed there ever since. They have played at the AT&T Park since 2000 and are one of the oldest teams around. As a result they have won more games than any other US baseball team, which gives them significance. Part of the Major League, they won the baseball World Series in 2010 and are thought of very highly as a team.
Our last team suggestion is the Atlanta Braves. They are one of the two remaining charter franchises in the National League and made their debut in 1876. They are sometimes referred to as the 'Bravos' or the 'team of the 90s' because they were so successful during the 1990s. In fact, they were one of the most successful baseball teams around between 1991 and 2005. They also won the World Series in 2005, something their fans are still very proud of.
