Canon 600D vs. Canon 60D: Which one should you buy?
There have been many debates over the new Canon T3i since its release in February, 2011. Many critics claim that there is no big difference between the Canon 600D (T3i) and the Canon 60D. The two cameras are similar from many points of view but also very different. Both cameras have the 18.0 Megapixel CMOS sensor which ensures the same high quality of the pictures. The cameras offer the same quality for the videos too since they have the same video settings and the same motion options. The LCD screen which took everyone by surprise on the Canon 60D is now part of the 600D as well. The differences, however, are considerable, particularly if you are a professional photographer. Here they are:
The Canon 600D can shoot 3.7 frames/second while the Canon 60D does a lot better with 5.3 frames/second. If you are into sports photography or you're simply interested in capturing moving subjects, the Canon 60D might look like a much better choice.
The Canon 60D's viewfinder is 0,59x while the viewfinder of the Canon T3i is only 0,53x. In addition, there is a difference of viewfinder coverage which is of 96% on the Canon 60D while the viewfinder coverage for the Canon 600D is of 95%. The pictures are much larger and brighter with the Canon 60D than with the Canon T3i because of the bigger viewfinder coverage.
One of the differences between the two cameras relates to the out of focus system, which is better on the Canon 60D than on the Canon 600D. The 60D has more cross-type focus points: 9, versus 1 of the T3i. This might be very important, especially for professional photography.
The shutter speed represents another big difference between the two cameras. The Canon 600D has 1/4000s while the Canon 60D has 1/8000s in shutter speed. Therefore, the 60D is better when you are using the flash or you shoot in full-of-light locations.
Concerning the battery life, with a 60D you can take about 1100 shots while the Canon 600D only offers you the possibility of 550.
As far as the weight and the size are concerned, the 60D is a little bit heavier and bigger than the Canon T3i.
The price is the last and biggest difference of all. The Canon 60D is much more expensive than the Canon 600D. To conclude, the Canon 600D might seem like a good offer if you take into account its weight, price and size. However, you should not overlook the many advantages that a Canon 60D can offer: better viewfinder, bigger shutter speed, more frames/second, a better focus system and a longer battery life.
