Dude! Did You Know That They Legalized Copying Wii Games This Year?

By Ditch Steedman

Tons of people over the last few decades have tried to reach "holy grail of geekdom". And by that, I mean copying video games. Not all, but many people have been put off from doing so, even if they know how, by questioning whether it is legal.

Well, don't fear, fembots - It is perfectly legal to copy Nintendo Wii video games, as well as any other digital media. There are a few caveats to this answer, though, which we'll explore next.

There's been a lot of arguing over the years, but the answer is located in the Fair Use Act, which simply says that you legally can burn, copy, rip, backup, or whatever you would like to describe it, if you are the owner of the original game.

This applies to movies, software, albums or anything else that comes on a CD or DVD that you've purchased. The only things that you can't do are do copy the games and then sell or give them away. As a matter of fact, and you might not believe this, but many experts in the area of consumer rights and digital law are demanding that consumers start backing up their games. This is because so many consumers don't make backups, and then file complaints when their master copy becomes destroyed, and they are unable to get a refund. Additionally, the copy can be played regularly, and you can keep the copy that you got from the store in a safe location. So don't fear - there is no lawful punishment for ripping video games. The U.S. Government will not show up banging down your back door, or penalize you billions of dollars.

There exists, however, an issue to address if you wish to learn how to copy Wii games. It is imperative that you use an application or program that can eliminate any restrictions. The manufacturers place these limitations on their games, to try to stop you from copying the video games so that you'll have to buy a new one if the original is messed up. The companies can't do anything to prevent this, but they sure can try to make it difficult. The restrictions themselves are entirely lawful, but eliminating them is equally as legal. So to assist those users in the world who do not wish to harm their originals, application software companies have created applications which can do this in a prompt manner, and also quite easily.
