How Music Can Help People With Alzheimer's Disease

By Edna Darling

Everyone loves music. Modern, classic, jazz, folk songs etc. people really enjoy listening to them. As it has been said that "music is the language of soul". Fortunately, there is a recent study showing how music helps to improve one's memory, too.

The study involved people with Alzheimer's disease and regular people. People affected by Alzheimer's disease have a problem with short-term memory.

The research tested the subjects by putting them in front of a computer monitor and showing them the lyrics of a song. Research showed that those experiencing Alzhiemer's disease were better able to remember the songs when they actually sung the songs than the normal individuals.

This was not expected by the scientist who performed the research. Early on the research, their hypothesis was that both will equally gain from music. Later, they found differently.

When a person listens to music, all aspects of the brain are involved. Studying the relationship between music and Alzheimer's disease further might be beneficial to find a cure or remedy for people suffering from this condition.

Because of the results of the experiments, experts think that music helps to imprint a memory in the brain because of the wide expanse of neurons that are activated when one listens to music.

In the past, it has been observed for those suffering Alzheimer's disease, their brain cannot process music as fast as normal individuals. However, this new technique of associating something with memory while the music is on may be needed by the individuals with Alzheimer's disease.

Ever since researchers believe that music gives great benefits to the memory and other complex task of person .Many believe that when a classical music is played to new born babies or even those still inside the tummy of the mother , this makes the child more intelligent.

Though more researches are required to learn more about the link between music and brain development, the findings of the latest researches continue to prove that there is hope to finding a cure to Alzheimer's disease.
