Why Is Make Up So Important In Wedding Portraits?

By Emma Cox

Brides and grooms, with the intention of looking special on their wedding day, only tend to over-do things; when they should try and look as natural as possible. Going in for a new haircut, or perhaps a different fancy collar, for the special day, would be anything but wise; on the part of the groom. If the bridegroom has been wearing a particular kind of bow ties, he should not switch to another one just for the wedding. If, in case, he decides to wear an old suit, he should check it in time, to see if it'll do; or perhaps of it requires any alteration.

Even the bride, she should not try on a 'fashionable' hairdo or color, for her wedding or the portrait. If she plans to wear something other than the gown, on the wedding day, her ensemble should be picked, keeping the groom's outfit in mind. A boutonniere, if the groom plans to wear one, should in no way be bigger than his lapel's outer peak. And if the bride chooses to use a long corsage with her outfit, she should go in for a garment with a covered shoulder, to pin it.

The bride should stick to known make up shades and patterns on the day of the ceremony for the best look. This is not the right time for her to try a new shade of blush on or lipstick. Try to apply lesser amount of eyeliner and pencil as opposed to generous application! The camera can make the eye make-up appear harsh under the bright lights of the studio.

Three things should be remembered while applying the blush- the color should be faint; the outline of the cheek bone should be proper; and it should extent maximum possible to the edge of cheek line. The application of the color on the base of the chin should be minimal. A definite color should highlight the lips and should also follow the actual lip line. To give a finished look to the face, neck and throat, a light dusting powder or pressed power should be applied. It also softens the effect of the facial color. It should be made sure that the press powder should be of a shade lighter than that of the blush on.

To bring out the highlights of the facial lines, makeup is applied by the photographer's assistant at the studio. There are also assistants, who instead of merely applying your choice of makeup, make their suggestions also; from years of experience. To get the glowing look for the d-day, there are a couple of tricks at the groom's disposal as well. For that perfect picture, he could simply use cologne on his forehead and cheekbones, and pat it with a tissue; to get the right glow.
