Identifying and Choosing Genuine Antique Singing Bowls

By Alma Hnanguie

There is a countless variety of singing bowls in the marketplace nowadays - some that are products of modern times, while some are centuries old. Antique singing bowls are highly valued due to their good quality, sound, and historical importance. When you are planning to buy a singing bowl, having satisfactory knowledge of the best way to identify an authentic antique will significantly help you in in searching for a thing that is of high value and one that is original .

Visual Appeal

Antique bowls have a tendency to be simple and, plain to look at, with only a few intricate designs or carvings on them. They will often have subjective decorations like lines or circles on their surface, beyond the rim, or in the bottom of the bowl, but anything that comes as a very complicated one must be a new bowl. Be cautious about bowls that seem to appear hard or rough on the outside - possibly, they are recently produced bowls that have been made to appear older and to fool the uninformed user. True antiques also are typically an average measurements 10-12 inches, and hardly ever any bigger.

Materials

Typically, antique bowls were created from 5-7 metals, including precious metals such as gold, silver, or iron. A number of these antiques don't have a perfect combination of metal alloys, making it typical to see streaks or spots of one specific metal (such as copper or silver) standing up for more on the outer lining. Due to cost of including precious metals in the manufacture of singing bowls, the modern types seem to be made of just one metal, usually brass or bronze.

Audio

The sound quality of antiques can never be matched, because when the age of a singing bowl increases, the quality of the sound increases as well. Great classic antiques have a very rich, warm and mellow sound with them, with powerful resonant harmonic overtones. If a bowl seems teeny, level, or disharmonious, there's a huge possibility that it's not antique.

Figuring out true antique singing bowls is just not always an easy process, but with these easy guidelines to be aware of, your search will become a bit easier.
