Understanding Chinese Tattoo Art

By John Chan

Chinese tattoos hold a strange kind of fascination for people and in spite of their early origin they are still extremely popular. The beauty of these tattoos has recently been discovered by the western world and they are very much in demand though they are not aware of the meaning of these tattoos.

The unusual symbols are so aesthetically appealing by themselves that people have used them for tattoos without even knowing what they stand for. This phenomenon is a common practice in the west. The youth, inspired by the television media seeks to get interesting Chinese tattoo symbols stamped on their body for life.

You will discover that acquiring a Chinese symbol printed on your body without knowing what it means may lead to something which you might regret afterwards. These artistic symbols may mean something strange or awkward which may be comprehended by someone who has knowledge of these tattoos and you could become a laughing stock which would be acutely embarrassing for you.

As an art form Chinese tattoos present an exotic and interesting way of presenting it. It is so aesthetically presented that today it is claiming world wide recognition though this form of expression have been around for centuries. Interestingly Chinese themselves do not put much value on tattooing as it is not considered to be respectable.

It is a amazing fact that tattoo as a form of art was considered to be indecent in ancient China. In spite of such feelings the tattoo artists had expressed their art in a most artistic and philosophical way and the symbols representing the tattoos mean many different things.

Why the Chinese regarded tattooing as an exception was the fact that these symbols were engraved on the bodies of the criminals in olden times who were treated as outcasts. Now of course the perception has changed as Chinese tattooing has become so popular all over the world especially in the west.

Since most of the people who wish to get Chinese tattoo done on themselves and do not understand Chinese have discovered a novel way to do get it done. They demand to get the names, ideas or concepts translated from other languages into Chinese tattoo. This in turn is not so hard as Chinese tattoo symbols originate about 4000 years back and most of the things you desire can be found in these symbols.

It is a proven fact that the Chinese symbols are extremely aesthetic in form and there are about 70,000 concepts which have been developed as symbols which include more than what you can think of. So anything that you want to use as a tattoo or otherwise can be converted into a Chinese symbol and presented in a similar beautiful form.

Old Chinese symbols bear somewhat similar physical appearance to the script called Kanji. In reality though the script originated in China but later it was adopted by the Japanese and modified by them. Many people mistake Kanji as Chinese tattoo symbol but in reality they may have drastically opposite meanings.
