Music Memorabilia Highly Collectible

By Adam Lewis

From the ancient times to today music has always been an important part of our daily lives. People are connected on a deep personal level with the music that they love and want to hold tight to the emotions and memories that their favorite pieces, artists or groups present. This is why music memorabilia is such a big part of the music lover's experience. It provides a way of not only enjoying the music itself but in some way holding onto a small piece of the history and experience that the music has.

The incredible power that collectibles have to connect us with the things, people and places in our lives that mean a lot to us in undeniable. Music memorabilia has long been a popular form of collecting. This is due to the fact that music is so universal in its enjoyment by all people. Another good reason is due to the fact that music collectibles hold their value so strongly in the market.

Many of the most popular collectibles related to music have nothing to do with the music itself. In fact it seems that the most sought after and cherished items have more to do with the performers as individuals. It's true that tickets to a concert or a signed album cover are very collectible and without a doubt very valuable, but things which are personal seem to make a stronger connection between the fans and the music.

An excellent example of this are pictures of a famous rock and roll star from the 1950's and 1960's who was drafted into the American military. Its not the fact that they are pictures of the king of rock and roll that makes them interesting and collectible, in fact just the opposite. The pictures in question are not of the celebrity performer on stage crooning out any of his number one hits, they are instead of him stripped to his tighty-whitie underpants, taking a physical and getting inoculations after he reported for military service to his country. This photos show a common man whom we can all relate to, not the super star we have grown to know. These pictures were found in an army photographers camera many years after the celebrities death and were auctioned off for well over a million dollars for the set of 24 images. This is a great example of how ANYTHING related to music can be collected and admired by those who love the music it is associated with.

The high price paid for such photographs is indicative of the fact that such pieces of personal memorabilia are much beloved by fans and collectors. These items are so cherished and so highly prized that they are top rated items of popular auction websites. One of the world most successful auction operators has an entire department devoted strictly to the processing authentication and selling of music related collectibles, memorabilia and art.

Another very important aspect of music memorabilia is music related art. This is not just the art that is produced to celebrate the performer or band, but in many cases is art made by a performer. One of the most famous performers of the 1970's is also known to be one of the most prolific artists of the modern era. The famous "dead-head" was known for producing almost all of his bands original album art but what few outside of his closest circle knew was that he was in his personal life a very prolific artist who produced over 300 paintings and over 1000 drawings over his life. This fact became public when his daughter set up a foundation in her father name and started to license some of the art out with the proceeds going to support music education and art education for underprivileged children. Today the paintings that have been released for sale trade in the art market for incredibly hefty sums and collector clamor when a new series of paintings are released.

The best thing about music is the fact that it transcends gender, age, time and ethnicity. Music can be enjoyed by all not matter who they are. Music collectibles are a way for everyone to enjoy the gift of music and to keep a special connection with a song or performer alive. There is no limit to deep connection a ticket stub, poster or autograph can have and there is not limit to the enjoyment that can be shared when telling your grandchildren how you get the item or hearing the story of how your parents met at that concert.

It does not matter is you are an expert collector or just a die hard fan, music memorabilia is one of the most enjoyable and cherished things that you can have in your life. Its holds its value both in terms of money and memories. The enjoyment of music is universal and so is the power of music collectibles.
