Practice Frequently

Make yourself 1 or 2 long-term goals and a few short term goals. Dominating a selected piece, tune or just a chord sequence would be a good example of a short term goal. Repeat the piece many times every day till the time comes that you are happy with it. You may set one of your long-term goals as reaching a fixed level of playing for example or to reach a level where you could accompany another musician. The setting of goals does not necessarily have to include time boundaries and cut off dates but it may help.

You'll make Mistakes - Don't let it concern you

Bear in mind that you will without doubt make several mistakes and mess ups when you're practicing and even when you perform, do not let this get to you, simply concentrate on getting through the piece and making it flow. It is much more effective to give a flowing performance with just one or two mistakes and blunders than a technically perfect yet cold and dry performance. It is not critical to stop when you make a mistake simply carry on playing. Remember if you can the place you made a blunder so that if you keep making the very same gaffe repeatedly then you should do some extra practice on that part till you can play it with no Problems.
