How To Start Writing A Memoir

By Carmen Harrington

If you woke up one morning and decided that it would be neat to have a book published one day, you have to know how to start writing a memoir first. This is the easiest topic you can write about to become better acquainted with yourself as a person and as a writer.

Years and years later when your children see what you have wrote about their life, they are going to want to show their children everything that you went through or everything that has happened when you were younger. Plus it will be nice for them to read it over and over again because not many kids remember what happened when they were in preschool.

Before you write anything, the first step would be to lock yourself in a quiet area. This way you will not be bothered by other house hold members. Even though you do not have any deadlines to make, it will give you experience for when you do.

You have to remember that your children will be reading this many years later and more years after that they will be showing their own children. It is a good idea to make sure that all of your punctuation is correct. It would be setting a good example because your children may become successful writers one day, and they may not want to show off what you write because of the errors you made.

Penmanship is also something you can work on even though most professional writers use a computer to write their novels. You still would want to work on that for other cases such as writing a paper for school for any other occasion. It would be a good idea for you to be able to read what you wrote.

When you are writing a memoir for any situation, it is very important that you have all of the facts straight, your handwriting is good, and it makes sense. If you cannot read what you wrote or if there is not anything that makes sense, there is no way your children are going to be able to read it or understand it.
