Most Common Problems With Roses

By Ernest Moore

When it comes to the matter of roses, there are so many different types to learn about that it can often get rather difficult and frustrating trying to learn about each and every one. One of the most common problems with roses is that they break while they are growing, and this is largely in part due to the fact of how delicate most roses are. Bush roses more than any other types of roses have problems, especially with disease and mildew.

Black spot, powdery mildew, and rusty spots on leaves are three of the most major problems with roses in general, and while mildew is a problem that is found nationwide, rust and black spot territories seldom tend to overlap.

The hybrid tea roses are tall and long-stemmed roses that are ideal for cutting, and they are typically the Valentine's Day flowers that you see at the florists. These flowers are usually borne singly, rather than in clusters. There are many different treatments that you can use if you do start experiencing any of these problems with your roses, and traditional treatment is the most commonly used form of treatment.

For one, in regards to traditional treatment, you are going to want to make sure that you spray any vulnerable roses with garden sulfur fungicide as directed on the label during their dominant period in early spring, and you also want to make sure that you check their growing tips and check all the young leaves for any signs of fungal disease, particularly when temperatures hit the mid 60s and when rainfall is especially sparse.

The problem of powdery mildew is one which is usually only severe in coastal areas that have moderate temperatures, and it is shown in a white or gray powdery coating that appears on rose leaves, buds and canes, and typically the disease will start on the young leaves and causes them to curl up, eventually exposing the lower surfaces. As long as you are aware of all the different problems that can occur with your roses as well as how to take care of each problem, then you should have no troubles, and your roses should be able to live for an incredibly long time.
