Ways to Build Pro Photography Website That Generates Business

Many photographers make the same gaffe as other small businesses when it comes to the design of their site. They presume that if it looks good, then that'll be enough to generate traffic and bring in clients. They hire a 'wonderful ' site designer who creates an astonishing site to show off their photographs. The site is typically full of high resolution images or flash based slideshows, bursting in multi-media effects and they're often extraordinarily disenchanted.

Today there are actually millions of internet sites devoted to wedding photography, typing "wedding photography" into Google returns over 80 million internet pages. Why would you new site be put above all of these? The good news is it is possible to rise up the Google rankings and generate business from the web, it just requires a little more effort and thought.

There are six stages to success and they are:

1. Market Research
2. Internet site Construction
3. On-Page Optimizatoin
4. Writing Content
5. Building Back links
6. Tracking Results

To get customers to your site you have to find the keywords that you potential clients are using to search in Google. These keywords need to have a few characteristics; they must be:

i) Business applicable

ii) Generate Heavy Traffic

iii) Low in Competition

So though you may think the best keyword for a wedding photographer to aim at would be "wedding photography", if we apply the above rules we'll see that there is far too much competition to succeed here and it could take years (if at all) before you are able to rank well for this term. Miles better to find a long term which is still applicable but has a smaller market. If the photographer works in the south of Britain then the term "Wedding Photographer London" could be a lot easier.

The website can then be designed with this in mind and other articles will go into the details in more depth. Once the site is built it will need content in the shape of articles and photographs all relevant to the focused keyword. When this is done the site should be promoted using off-site methods to build links from other sites (Blogs, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook) which may increase it's visibility to Google.

Analytic software like Google Analytics should be installed from the start to follow the progress and allow the technique to be changed based on results. The whole process may take many months to generate results, but the final result is really worth the effort.
