The Growing Demand For Miniature Works Of Art

By Aaron Scotch

Miniature art is a genre of art that is tiny. In the western world, these were mostly introduced as pictures highlighting the ancient manuscripts. They were mostly scenes from everyday life, the bible or portraits of saints and angels.

With the advent of the press, the artists began to paint for royalties and wealthy traders. These exquisite paintings were tiny enough to fit into your wallet and were carried around like putting pictures of yourself or others in your wallet.

These paintings can be done on a wide range of surfaces and with a wide range of painting material. They must entail the basic principle of compositions and color and persisting level of detail.

Some experts profess that this art must not be confused or assumed to be small and this is a style or techniques of painting and could be the size of a wall and still be called "miniature"

Although, quite contrary to all that has been said earlier, some experts say that the origin of the term "miniature" does not come from size, but from the term "minimum" depicting the red lead paint used in the manuscripts and Latin word used to say "color with red lead". So these paintings can be of any size even as large as murals.

There are several reasons why they are popular. One of them being that it is convenient to use the smaller ones, as they fit in small spaces or walls without giving a congested look. Several small miniatures may also be used together instead of one large painting.

Moreover, miniatures are not exorbitant like other larger paintings, thereby making them more accessible to all art lovers and not just a few who can afford a huge investment.

Miniatures could be used for home decor, offices; they can be displayed on shelves, tables and over fireplaces, etc. They could also make good gifts for people and are certainly worth having to bring that delicate and fine touch to your surroundings.
