By Nikki Hilton

Video production began when producers would use VCRs to store the content but thanks to many technological developments, digital video recorders were later introduced. These include DVDs and even flash memory camcorders. These equipments have greatly simplified video production where one can record a clip while simultaneously streaming it to the internet. However, you need to consider the following if you are serious about producing quality videos.

The process is generally divided into three major phases, preproduction, production, as well as post-production. Each phase should be properly executed in that order. In the first stage careful planning is required. You should come up with a plan depending on the level of the shoot, whether it is a simple home film, an entire film or even a wedding event recording.

All the necessary equipment needed for the shooting need to be availed at this stage too. It is advisable to invest in quality even though expensive recording equipment. This includes cameras, DVD burners, tripod, microphone, video editing computer and software. These equipments need to be checked and tested to ensure that they are in good working conditions to avoid disappointment during the shoot.

Once you get all the needed tools, you need to proceed to the real shoot. Here, care, skills and experience is required bearing in mind that creating videos is a skill perfected with time. You require an even ground to set your stand and recorder. This is expected to ease movements of the recorder hence avoid unclear shaky images particularly when recording moving objects.

When shooting a rehearsed clip, you should be in perfect harmony with your crew in the case where you are the director. The whole crew should be very attentive to your cues in order to maintain order and harmony during the process. Using recognized directives like 'roll' and 'cut' for beginning and stopping a shoot. After a satisfactory recording session, you can then move to the next recording.

The post-production is the final stage in the creation of videos. It involves a lot of editing where you review the entire clip; scenes, audio and graphics. You mix, crop, delete, merge them using the video editing computer and software in order to come up with your desired output. This calls for editing skills and attention to detail. You should give a sample of your final draft to the end users or your friends for review.

If the end users are comfortable with the draft, you should then produce a master copy based on the review and your creativity. It is recommended that you use a resolution of 800 by 600 as it can be viewed in most media. Depending on the number of end users you target to serve, you should make copies in DVDs, CDs or even in flash memory that you could upload and send via the internet.

Remember, you require lots practice so as to master video shooting. Regardless of your interest in video production, the above points will assist you to prepare and shoot a video of high value and attractive effect that will make your profile as an experienced video recorder among you friends and customers.
