Essential Steps To Consider Before Getting Your Nose Pierced

By Geneva R. Gamble

Have you been thinking about getting your nose pierced? If so, you're not alone. It has become more and more popular lately, despite its negative repercussions. In fact, it has been part of religious rites in Africa for centuries.

Don't think getting your nose pierced is similar to getting other body piercings. First of all, it can lead to terrible infections and it can be painful. Plus, it may cause others to see you in a negative light. You can forget about wearing one in a professional work atmosphere. But if you're intent on getting one you should take special precautions so it will heal correctly. Read on.

The first step should be a trip to your doctor. Get a clean bill of health before getting any piercing. He or she will let you know if a piercing is right for you or could cause dangerous side effects. Make your health a priority and get your doctor's advice before getting a piercing.

Don't take cleanliness for granted. Be sure to clean your nose and jewelry at least twice a day. Apply antiseptic frequently throughout the day to keep germs away.

When you're cleaning your nose use warm salt water and cotton balls. Hydrogen peroxide is advised against since it can be abrasive.
If you have your nose jewelry in, don't play with it. It's gross to see people with their fingers in and around their nose. Plus, your nose will not heal well if you are fiddling with it. Keep your hands away from it, for everyone's sake.

When you have your nose jewelry in, leave it alone. Don't play with it or it may not heal properly. Plus, it's kind of gross to see someone playing with and putting their fingers in their nose.

Keep your hands off your nose ring unless you're cleaning it. Touching it too often can lead to awful infections that are painful and ugly to see. If you pull on your jewelry you can also cause it to tear the skin and cause bleeding. This is not something you want to happen.

If you get a piercing be aware that it may make your skin swell. If this happens don't sweat it. It's not uncommon. Just see your doctor to make sure it's not infected. In the worst case scenario, you'll just have to remove the silly piercing, let it heal and chalk it up to experience.
