A Review of Why You Need an Outdoor or Indoor HDTV Antenna

By Richie Vee

You have probably all have heard by now about different reviews for outdoor or indoor HDTV antennas. So what is this all about? An analog signal is one that has been used since the invention of the television. Now we have a better signal, one that isn't going to give out on you during bad weather. Its a more consistent signal that delivers beautiful resolution and its out there on the airwaves waiting for you to discover it.

Digital signals bring clarity and a much sharper picture than its analog predecessor. Viewing television with a digital signal will give you a perfect picture no matter what Mother Nature decides to throw your way. Getting this clear, sharp signal to your home television set is easy; simply install new high definition equipment.

To begin enjoying better quality television you simply need to go out and make a onetime purchase for the new equipment that will allow the digital age to enter your home. Before you do, however, there are a few key things you need to be familiar with.

First of all you must determine where your local TV station tower is located. If you are a great distance from this tower and there are many obstacles in your path such as building or mountains you are going to need to purchase a larger unit. If you are located relatively close to the tower or if there are no major buildings or mountains between you then it is possible that a smaller unit would suffice.

There are two types of digital signals that are sent over the air. The first is very high frequency or VHF and the second is ultra high frequency or UHF. Both of these frequencies indicate specific channels ranges. Generally channels two through thirteen are sent over very high frequencies (VHF) while channels fourteen and higher and sent over ultra high frequencies (UHF).

You should determine which channels you would like to receive from your local TV station. Once you have decided which channels are the ones you would like you can then determine whether to purchase a UHF or VHF device. Very high frequency receivers are going to be larger in size in order to capture the smaller signal whereas ultra high frequency receivers are going to be smaller due to larger thus easier signal capture. Should you decide you want them both your solution is simple, purchase one receiver that is compatible for both ultra high frequency and very high frequency.

Lastly determine whether you will want to use a device that will be installed outside of your home or inside of your home. Using equipment on the outside of your home has the benefit of always getting a better signal than the device you would use on the inside. The downfall to outside use is the size of the equipment will be much larger and you must find a sturdy place to attach it to the outside. Using an inside device is much simpler because it sits on or very near your television set. Want to find out more about HDTV products? Read this good article comparing LCD TVs versus Plasma TVs .
