Texas Holdem Rules

Pre-flop betting begins after hole cards are dealt. After the first betting round, a burn card is discarded and three community cards or flops are drawn.

Burn cards are cards that are taken from the top of the deck and are not included in the game. This is practiced to prevent cheating. Burn cards must also be discarded before community cards are dealt and right after every betting round.

Once the flop is placed at the play table, the second round of betting begins. Another burn card is taken and the fourth community card, the turn, is exposed.

Finally, the last round of betting starts then a final burn card is discarded once more and the final community card, 'the river' is dealt.

When this is done, the game ends with a showdown where players compare the hands with other players. The player with the highest hand ranking wins.

Texas Holdem Hands:

Hold Em poker has a number of possible hands or card combinations. Refer to the list below for hands from best to worst.

Straight Flush - these are cards of a specific sequence and in the same suit. The unbeatable variation of this is the Royal Flush which contain A-T in the same suit.

Four Of A Kind - these are four cards of the same rank with an unrelated side card called the kicker.

Full House - this is a combination of three cards and two cards that have the same rank.

Flush - are five cards with the same suit but do not necessarily follow an order.

Straight - these are cards that are in order but not in the same suit. Aces may be used at either the top or bottom of this combination but you need to remember that only this card can act in this manner.

Three of A Kind - are three cards in the same rank and two unrelated side cards.

Two Pair and One Pair - both combinations have two pairs and one pair of same ranking cards respectively. Two pairs contain one side card while a one pair will of course have three.

High Cards - these are cards do not belong to any of these categories.

Games are won by players with high ranking hands but in case of a tie, everything will boil down to the card combination the hands consist of.

These are the complete Texas Holdem Rules and hands you can make in Holdem. Now, the only thing left to do is to continue on to learn more about Holdem.
