At Home Ipod Touch Water Damage Repair

By Denise K. Yin

Ipods are everywhere these days and used for listening to music on the go, taking pictures and watching videos. The players can cost a pretty penny to have replaced should anything happen to them and most types of damage are not covered under the manufacturers warranty. Should your device come into contact with water of any kind, trying to fixing it yourself can save a lot of money. Here are a few iPod Touch water damage repair tips that can be tried to breathe life back into a damaged device.

Keeping the devices power off is very important. Should the item be turned back on before it has a chance to completely dry out, the parts inside can be permanently damaged. Looking into the headphone jack and determining if the ring inside is red or pink will tell you if there is water damage for sure.

If your device has a SIM card in it, taking that out and drying it is the next step. Make sure to use a rag or cloth that will not leave any fibers on the SIM card. Gently blotting the card until there in no longer water on it should help to save it. If you do not have the removal tool that came with the device, anything with a small pointed tip should work to help get it out.

Drying out the inside of the phone is critical. User will need a blow dryer in order to do this. Taking the hair drying and positioning it above the open slot on one end and then other should help to get all the fluid out. The dryer needs to be set on cold or a very low heat setting. Before turning it on give the device a couple shakes to make sure the majority of the fluid is out. The air drying should be done for 10 minutes on each end.

In order to complete the attempt at home repair you will need a plastic bag and some rice. The rice is a tried and true method to help collect moisture. The trick is to fill the plastic bag with white rice and then to put the device in completely covered. Leaving the item this way for about three days should help to draw out the rest of the remaining moisture.

After removing the device from the rice, you will need to double check to see if the moisture has completely gone away. If not then putting it back in the bag with fresh rice and leaving it for a few more days should do the trick. If three days was enough then you can move on to the final step.

Now that all the parts are dry the SIM card can be replaced and the device can be powered on. Before doing this however, you need to double check by gently shaking the unit to make sure all the fluid is gone. Hopefully this has brought the player back to working order and the only thing left to do is to enjoy some tunes.
