Experience Cornwall With St Ives Bay Holidays

By Michael Fielding

St Ives Bay holidays give visitors a chance to experience the lovely seaside villages and pristine beaches that make up the Atlantic coast region of Cornwall. The sheltered harbor offers great surfing spots and breathtaking sea views just a short distance away from luxury accommodations and amenities.

Surfers will want to head east to Giwithian for the best waves. The west side rises higher above the ocean and features a series of headlands separated by rocky beaches. The area on this side is dotted with small villages and towns.

St Ives was once a bustling fishing village and now draws tourists from everywhere. This quaint town is laid out on cobblestone streets. Small granite cottages are interspersed with modern cafes, restaurants and galleries. The September Festival draws people from all walks of life interested in film, poetry, art, music and books. Local artists invite the public into their studios to watch the creative process.

Carbis Bay is a seaside resort located one mile south and offers another ideal base for touring the Cornwall area. The cliff walk offers stunning sea views that cannot be missed. It takes just twenty minutes from the beach. The lower path from the bridge offers the best views across the water to Trevose Head. An alternate walk leads to Trencrom Hill with its iron age fort and panoramic views from seven hundred feet above sea level. Stunning sea views from Carbis Bay include the lighthouse on Godrevy Island that warns ships of The Stones reef that lies near Godrevy Head.

The village of Lelant is perched alongside the Hayle River mouth. St Michaels Way is a twelve mile hike that connects one coast to the other. Hikers can take the coastal route that travels through Gulval or the inland path that leads into Lelant. As the oldest course in Cornwall, the West Cornwall Golf Club is a must see for anyone who enjoys a good round of golf. The Hayle Estuary is a favorite stomping ground for bird watchers.

A wide range of accommodations can be found to suit any budget. From cottages to coast retreats to beachfront apartments, there is something for anyone who is ready to explore the Atlantic Coast.
