Four Greatest Guitarists of Them All
Planning this type of list isn't simple. There are actually hundreds of names one can choose from. And, naturally, you will find arguments opened here and there about who should be in or who should be out, or who should be at the top.
Yet, eventually, for me personally there are four names that define guitar playing as we view it today. Every one of these people has brought a fantastic influence on music as well as on many other guitarists who would like to follow their actions.
I highly recommend you appreciate the collection in any order. There's no number 1 here.
Steve Vai. Born on June 6th, 1960 in Carle Place, USA. He is well known for being a virtuoso in the world of guitar music by having his own unique style. One of the main elements of this style is the use of floating vibrato. Some of the famous pieces by Steve Vai are: For the Love of God and Lotus Feet. A world renowned rock guitar player, composer, and producer who has sold over 15 million albums. He has won 3 Grammy Awards and 9 Grammy nominations for the past years of his career. He was also featured on the front cover of Guitar Player magazine and was voted as the Best Rock Guitarist.
Jimi Hendrix. His real name was Johnny Allen Hendrix. His style of music was often created with distortion effect using high electronic gain and treble. Some of his famous pieces were his first singles like: Hey Joe, The Wind Cries Mary, Purple Haze. He was born on November 27th, 1942 and passed away on September 18th, 1970. A famous American guitarist and songwriter. Considered as one the greatest electric guitarists in music history, he became very influential to other musicians from other genres during his time.
Joe Satriani. Born on July 15th, 1956. Some of his popular pieces are the Summer Song, Flying in a Blue Dream and Surfing with the Alien. He's mostly known for being a rock guitarist but he also plays bass, keyboards, harmonica, banjo, and harp. He has been nominated for the Grammys 14 times and sold 10 million albums across the world. An Italian American. Satriani is well-known for his technique. He has mastered many performance techniques, including legato, two-handed tapping and arpeggio tapping, volume swells, harmonics, and extreme whammy bar effects.
Carlos Santana. Born on July 20th, 1947. Some of the popular songs of his are: Smooth and Maria Maria. An American Mexican guitarist. He founded his band named Santana in the late 60s and early 70s. The band played rock, salsa and jazz fusion which then made them famous. He has once been inducted to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. He has his own style of playing wherein his melodic, blues-based guitar lines set against Latin and African rhythms featuring percussion instruments like. He has won 10 Grammy Awards and 3 Latin Grammy Awards.
